Through the four principles of meditation, we constantly arise from this in our hearts from the four principles of meditation or walking, standing, sitting, and lying.When you have doubts, you must understand directly through this nothingness, and use your own heart to see where the intention of the monk Zhaozhou is after the word "No".
Today, a fellow practitioner said that he found an answer, but he didn't know if it was right: nothing is existence, and existence is non-existence, so the meaning of monk Zhaozhou is neither existence nor non-existence, neither emptiness nor existence. He is telling us this principle.This is wrong.
We are not asking you to find an answer, nor do we want you to guess the answer.Meditation means meditation. Through such meditation, we must understand directly in our minds, not in concepts, logic, thinking, and principles.
Because we have already known enough of the principles. If you just take a Buddhist scripture, there are so many principles, but do we understand?Do we truly understand the heart of Buddha and the heart of the ancestors in our hearts?The particularity of Zen meditation is here, and you need to understand and know your own heart.
This understanding and understanding, through studying a topic, will have a situation in the body and mind. ***。The moment you truly understand is a earth-shaking change, a leap-like breakthrough, which is a complete subversion of our thoughts and understanding of the world from our past life to the present, and straightening the things that have been inverted in the past.
When studying the topic of the topic, it is not to let you use logic to reason, nor to think theoretically.If you think you have a breakthrough, don’t ask me. It’s very simple. Just open your eyes and see if the operating mechanism of your mind changes when it is in the situation?Of course, for those who have not changed, it is hard to imagine that there will be any changes. I am so good!
Last time I also said that from the past life to the present, we have been at the bottom of the well for life and living in binary opposition.We cannot imagine any further changes, nor can we imagine what it will feel after the relationship between our heart and this world is subverted. This is the key to practice.Otherwise, no matter how many principles you understand, it will not work. When you meet greed, you are still greedy, and when you are angry, you are still angry, and still in your dreams. What's the use?
The spirit of Zen attaches great importance to this deep in your heart ***,I don’t care much about how much knowledge, how much Buddhist principles, and how many sutras you have learned.If we memorize a lot and know a lot, but cannot transform our own hearts, the ancients compared it to talking about food and counting other people's treasures, and they are very hungry. If you say: rice, rice, rice, rice, you are still hungry;You are very poor, but if you order other people's money, you are still poor.
Zen means delivering food to our mouths and filling ourselves. It means asking us to order our own money, which means solving our own problems, solving our mental problems, and solving the problems in reincarnation.In school, in books, and in society, we can learn a lot of truths and knowledge.Our brains move from the past to the present, every day.
You can imagine that the six billion people on this earth have six billion brains that have not stopped 24 hours a day. In various emotions, the operation of thoughts, the interpretation of concepts, and the calculations in mind, these six billion brains have not stopped.
Looking back further, for tens of millions of years on Earth, the heads of countless human beings have not stopped such discrimination, attachment, judgment, reasoning, and imagination, but the problems on our earth are still problems. This world is still in continuous, and the karma of sentient beings is still in continuous.
Zen requires each of us to walk out from here and jump out from such a world of karma, discriminatory mind, greed, anger, ignorance, and suffering.You jumped out, your feet were still on the earth, you were still one of the six billion heads, but the pattern of your mind’s operation changed, this is Zen meditation.
What exactly does it want us to do?The ancestors said that they had been enlightened, what happened to enlightenment?It is to straighten the things we have turned upside down!This is in the depths of the soul ***,It is a subversion and a transformation of our mind’s world-knowing model.In life, have your thoughts and activities changed when it comes to circumstances?It's very simple, you can experience it yourself.
The method of cultivating Wu was advocated by Zen Master Dahui Zonggao and Zen Master Wumen Huikai as early as the Song Dynasty.They advocated the understanding of the mind and breaking the doubts by participating in the Zhaozhou monk's inability to understand.Zen Master Dahui has many discussions on how to meditate on this non-existence.He specifically said that you cannot regard this non-existence as existence and non-existence as existence and non-existence, and you will fall into the concept;It cannot be regarded as nothingness;You can't just stop your heart at this supreme.
There was a word in ancient times called Coobo, which means that you just keep your mind on it.Inquiry does not mean that the mind is paused, but that the mind is focused on the goal and has a power of exploration and observation.The important thing is to develop a kind of doubt through this inaction, and to understand the mind of the ancestor and the words of the ancestor, but we cannot follow this path through knowledge, concepts, logic, thinking, and judgment.
For example: a person is locked in a room with a lock on the door, telling you not to use the key, you still have to go out, how can you go out without the key?Now let me tell you that if you participate in this, don’t use your usual thinking and reasoning activities.
Because activities at this level are as I mentioned earlier, neither the whole human being nor the individual sentient beings have solved this problem.You stand inside and think about it for days and nights, and make up a lot of answers, but it is useless. This road is not clear, but you must have tried to figure out that it is in this state.
What should you do now?You use your entire body to hit this door.If you don’t have this topic, you are not allowed to find a way or a shortcut in the ideological and knowledge levels. You can only inject all your life force and all your physical and mental energy into this supreme, just like we use our bodies to hit the door, and hit the whole thing, and take a single bet. This is the smell.

As I mentioned earlier, we need to see through our discriminatory mind and consciousness activities, the mind that transcends the dual opposites. You say that it is the Buddha's mind, self-nature, and Tathagatagarbha can liberate the true mind that is blocked by our discriminatory mind.
A leaf blocked its eyes and could not see the forest.Our discriminatory mind, all conscious activities that take self-attachment as the starting point, fundamental background, basic position, and the resulting behavioral consequences obscured us, making us unable to see that there is a broader world in life that transcends all oppositions.This self-attachment and binary oppositional conscious activity is like a rope, binding our Buddha's heart and unable to manifest.
What does ginseng mean?Let’s make an analogy: a person was tied up and down by a rope, but his body could move, and he could get close to a stone to grind and rub. Finally, the rope was broken and he was liberated!
This stone that grinds off our rope is the wordless, and this rope is precisely the ego, our discriminatory mind and discriminatory thoughts.We just need to use the stone without words to break the discriminating mind and discriminating thoughts.
Zen Master Dahui said that if you meditate on this nothing, you can't let go of it in your heart, and you will focus all your attention on it, but you can't think of a reason, so you feel bored.What does it mean to taste?We have thought, judged and distinguished for countless kalpas, which is what we feel about. If we put nothing in our hearts, of course we will lose our taste.
This tasteless Wuzai can't let go of it. Slowly, the evil knowledge and awareness in our hearts are our discriminatory mind. The ego is slowly dispelled, which is equivalent to being until it doesn't work and resting.It's boring and tasteless, but it gets free when the rope breaks.You can think about how direct this method is!This is the first metaphor.
The second metaphor is what the ancients said, when we work hard, our mind state is like a cat waiting for a mouse in front of the mouse hole.What is that state?
It couldn't fall asleep, it fell asleep, and the mouse came out and ran away;It cannot look around, either, as the mouse will take the opportunity to slip away;You can't drill directly into the hole, because the cat cannot drill into the mouse hole;It cannot constantly attack the hole because it will alarm the mouse, and the mouse will hide inside and cannot come out.
The cat must not only wait at the entrance of the cave, but also focus all its attention on the entrance of the cave, but also be ready to attack at any time and is always in a state of attacking.Focusing on the hole with all concentration is a metaphor for our focus on the topic of the chorus, but only focusing;At the same time, pay close attention to the movements and be ready to attack at any time. This is a metaphor for our hearts to have a power of exploration, wanting to attack and wanting to explore.When we talk about the koan, our mind is in this state.
The third metaphor was also used by the ancients.When the hen hatches a chick, he sits on the egg and cannot leave because once it leaves, the egg will become cold and the chick cannot hatch;It can't go out and turn around, then come back and sit, sit for a while and turn again.no.It must sit on the egg until the chick inside matures, the hen pecks the eggshells and the chick comes out.
This is used to describe the meditation of our Zen. We focus on the chorus, which is equivalent to the hen not giving up or moving, and focusing on the egg.I brewed the topic in my mind for a long time until I grindled away all the discriminating thoughts in my mind, rested all the time, which was equivalent to the skill of combining it. At this time, another force outside was broken and the chick came out.
What is this power outside?From the experience of the ancients, it was an opportunity outside. As you bumped, you might hear a sound, you might see flowers blooming, you might hear birds crying, you might be the master hitting him, and the cup fell to the ground. All such opportunities were about to break out, and the wise little chick came out!This is the key to the method of koans, and everyone can experience it through it.
