2023-07-23 Buddhist stories: The stories of great monks and great masters
Buddha Yashe (Red bearded monk )
When Buddha Yeshe was thirteen years old, his father asked him to become a monk.
The reason for his becoming a monk is very simple: his family is in Yubin (Kashmir ),Originally belonged to the Brahman caste, the family believed in heretics for generations.A monk came to beg for food. His father was furious and asked someone to beat him. Suddenly, his hands and feet were cramped and he couldn't do it freely. He asked the wizard in panic, and the wizard said: You offended the wise man, this is the retribution of ghosts and gods.Hearing this, he hurriedly invited the monks to go home and repent with all their hearts and would be ready soon.Only then did he believe in the gods of Buddhism, so he handed over his son to the monk to show respect. In this way, another monk was added to Buddhism in the future.
Yeshe followed the teacher and saw a tiger walking leisurely in the wilderness. The master grabbed him: Disciple, follow me, and go to the gods to avoid him.Yeshe shook his hand: Master, don’t panic, the tiger is already full and will not hurt people. So the two of them went their separate ways.Moving forward, he saw the white bones scattered in blood. The master was secretly surprised and looked at him differently since then.
At the age of fifteen, Yeshe could recite 20,000 to 30,000 words a day.But living in the temple, he had no food and clothing, so he had to go out to beg for alms often, which made it a lot of waste to recite scriptures and daily classes.A Arhat saw that he was smart and clever, and thought that this son would be extraordinary in the future, so he often beg for food to offer him, and Yeshe worked harder.By the age of nineteen, he had already recited millions of words from the Great and Large Sutras. But he was arrogant and thought that few people could be his teacher, so the monks around him did not value him. When he was at the age of taking the precepts, no one came to the altar for him, so he could only be a novice monk. However, his graceful manners and good at chatting and laughing also diluted the dissatisfaction of many others.Yeshe didn't care about this, and he learned the Five Minds with his uncle, and he was proficient in all worldly magic and skills. He didn't take the ordination until he was twenty-seven years old. After that, I even focused on reciting the volume without putting it down.He even regarded sitting upright and thinking about the meaning of the scriptures as wasting time.
Later, Yeshe arrived in Charles (Ancient Central Asian Kingdom )。Just as the king was in a bad mood, he invited three thousand monks to hold a Dharma assembly, and Yeshe was one of them. The prince Bodhidharmaph saw that he was dignified and elegant and glorious, so he asked him where he came from. Yeshe spoke well, and the prince was overjoyed and left him in the palace to preach to everyone.Kumarajiva came later and also learned from him. The two of them fell in love with each other at first sight, and their relationship was extraordinary.Later, Luo Shi wanted to go back to Kucha with his mother, but Yeshe advised him to stay but failed. The king died soon and the prince ascended the throne, and he was more generous. When Fu Jian sent Lu Guang to conquer Kucha, Kucha King Bai Chun asked Shale for help.King Shale personally led troops to reinforce and asked Yeshe to assist the prince, which was very meaningful to entrust his orphan. But before the reinforcements arrived, Kucha was defeated. The king came back and told Yeshe in detail how Roche was captured by Lu Guang.Yeshefu Case sighed: Although Luo Shi and I have been together for a long time, we have not been able to fully embrace him. He was suddenly kidnapped by a powerful enemy. When will we meet?
More than ten years later, Yeshe traveled east to Kucha to preach Buddhism, and it was a grand scale.Although he is in a highly respected state, he often misses his old friends every quiet night.Luo Shi was in Guzang at that time (Wuwei, Gansu ),He sent a letter to invite him, and he took the food away, but was discovered by the Kucha people. Countless believers knelt on the ground and tried to stay, so they had to live there for more than a year. One day, Yeshe suddenly said to his disciple: I want to find Luo Shi, hurry up and get some clothes, let's set off at night, don't let people know. The disciple was worried: I'm afraid they would catch up tomorrow and they would inevitably have to come back.Yeshe said it was okay, so he took a bowl of clear water, put medicine, and a magic spell to wash his feet with his disciples.Several people set out that night and walked hundreds of miles at dawn.Yeshe asked: How do you feel? The disciple said: The wind was very loud and tears couldn't help but shed tears in her eyes.Yeshe smiled. The Kucha people can't catch up no matter what.
Guzang is right in front of you.But Luo Shi has entered Chang'an.
Yeshe felt a little disappointed.Later he heard that Yao Xing forced Luo Shi to marry and take a concubine, which made him break the rules and sigh: Luo Shi is like a good silk cotton, how can he be in the thorns?Luo Shi knew that he had arrived in Guzang and advised Yao Xing to welcome him. At that time, Yao Xing still didn't know who Yeshe was and did not obey.Soon Yao Xing asked Luo Shi to translate the scriptures, and Luo Shi deliberately said: To promote Buddhism, the scriptures that we must rely on must be perfect in the text and meaning. Although I read a lot of scriptures, I do not have much profound attainments in Buddhist principles.Only Buddha Yashe is good at the meaning of the sutra.I hope Your Majesty will invite him so that he can think twice during translation and be sure of writing. Only when he does not leave out the subtle words and great meanings can he gain faith for thousands of years.Yao Xing sent envoys to Guzang with generous gifts. Yeshe did not accept any gifts and said with a smile: Once the imperial edict is here, he should set off quickly. The donor treats others kindly, but if he treats me like he does to Luo Shi, he will not dare to obey his orders. The envoy responded, and Yao Xing praised him for his cautious behavior, so he sent another letter to ask for help.In this way, the old friends who have been separated for many years are able to gather together.
Yao Xing set up a new hall for Yeshe in Xiaoyao Garden.Yeshe took nothing to offer everything, but just had a meal every day.At that time, Luo Shizheng translated the "Ten Abstinence Sutra" and was hesitant for a full month, so it was difficult to write. After Yeshe came, the two decided together. All the monks praised the concise and proper literature.Yeshe has a red beard on his mouth (Acropolis )He was also good at speaking "Vibahsha", so he was called "Red Vibhasha".He was a teacher of Rashi, and he was also called the Great Vibhasha. The offerings he received, the robes, bowls, beddings and utensils filled three rooms. But he never cared about these things. Yao Xing sold them for him and built a temple in the south of the city.Yeshe once recited "Tanwu Dilu". Yao Shuang, the captain of the Sili, wanted to ask him to translate it, but was worried that there were any misunderstandings in his memory, so he tested him: he asked him to recite 50,000 words of Qiang Prescriptions, and the next day he took out the original text comparison, and it was just a word. Yao Shuang was deeply convinced and asked him to start.
The eleventh year of Hongshi (409 AD )Luo Shi passed away, and Yeshe remained in Chang'an to preach the Dharma. In the fifteenth year of Hongshi, he disbanded the throne and Yao Xing gave him ten thousand pieces of cloth and silk, but he did not take any of it.Later, Yeshe bid farewell to Chang'an and went abroad. He walked to Qibin and obtained a volume of the "Void Sutra" and asked the merchants to transfer it to the monks in the mainland.Later, I didn't know where to end.
